The International Deaf Awareness Week
The International Deaf Awareness Week (IDAW), also known as international Week of the Deaf or International Week of Deaf People, is global event that is celebrated annually on the last week of September. The event is an initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf and in collaboration with national associations of the Deaf. During the week, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities worldwide highlight the achievements, challenges, future expectations by the Deaf community within their own countries on how public and private services to Deaf persons and Hard of Hearing can be improved to meet the need of Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers. During the Week, Deaf persons also celebrate their culture, national heritage and language unique to the Deaf Community. Kenya National Association of the Deaf (KNAD) and the Deaf communities in Kenya through the financial support of Nippon Foundation and in partnership with stakeholders for the last two years has celebrated the International Deaf Awareness Week.
